Bloom divides his Canon into the following four "Ages":

1. The Theocratic Age: 2000 BCE-1321 CE;
2. The Aristocratic Age: 1321-1832;
3. The Democratic Age: 1832-1900;
4. The Chaotic Age: 20th Century;
