Matteo Maria Boiardo, 1440 or 41–1494
Biographical note
Italian Renaissance poet, now best remembered for his poem of chivalry and romance, Orlando Innamorato (Roland in love), first published in 1494.
The story was continued by Ariosto in Orland Furioso, which was hugely popular. This led Francesco Berni to revise Boiardo's poem, adding polish to the work. This revision (the Rifacimento) was published in 1541.
